I have a little longer than shoulder legnth hair. It isn't CURLY exactly, but dried naturally it is lose and wavy, especially on the underside. I am going to a sweet 16 in about a month and I want to wear my hair down and keep it wavy. But I don't want it to look messy or frizzy, I can't brush it or it just gets poofy and dumb. I also don't want to go get it done professionally. I know this is a lot to ask for but what should I do!?

First, after you shampoo and condition your hair, GENTLY towel dry it. Just press sections of your hair between the towel. Aquis and the Body Shop have good, super-absorbent towels.

Then shape your hair with your fingers, spray with a light styling lotion or gel and either let air dry or blow dry with a diffuser.

You can also use a touch of jojoba oil. It will condition your hair and is non-comedogenic. A silicone based styling serum will add a nice sheen but be sure to wash it out thoroughly to avoid build up.

Another option is to pull your hair into an updo. A messy, loose chignon or bun with a few glitter clips might do the trick.

Try Garnier Sleek and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner, then apply John Frieda Frizz Ease. After your hair is dry either apply a light styling creme or heat styling spritz pick one according to your hair texture. Then straighten it with a ceramic flat iron. You can't go wrong, this is fool proof. But if this doesn't work just seek some professional help.

Icky! Don't use Pantene, that stuff is the worst shampoo you can put on your hair. It coats your hair with wax (which makes it shiny) and I know it makes my hair extremely dry & brittle.

I'm in the same boat with you, my hair isn't exactly curly or wavy unless I do something to it. But, my hair is color treated, and therefore is extremely dry. I do use the Nexxus line of shampoos & conditioners and it smooths it out nicely.

When I want my hair "straight", I wash my hair as normal, but, I make sure to take a wide tooth comb with me in the shower and "comb" through the conditioner in my hair. Then, I towel dry it and comb through again. Next, I start blow drying (on the cool setting) with a large flat brush, but, I don't completly dry my hair, I leave it slightly damp. I let my hair air dry then for the remainder of the time and then take a straighting iron to smooth my poof.

I know it's a lot of steps, but, my hair lays nice and smooth when done. Hope this helps. :-)

Use a really good shampoo and conditioner

Sun Silk Anti-Frizz
The green bottle
I used it in the summer and it worked pretty well.

Pantene Pro-V
Smooth and Sleek
I am curently using this one,and my waves turned out nicely.

But shampoo's have different affects on everyone.
