They do absolutely nothing for you, so they are a waste of money. Completely. I work with this stuff everyday. These companies get fined all the time and they close down and reopen with the same product under a different name. Anyone can put a few herbs, vitamins together and call it whatever and claim it does all kinds of things. They are never tested--ever. Because they don't work.
Save your money.

They're fine to take... if you ENJOY throwing your money away. Simply put, there is NO SUCH THING as a pill that boosts metabolism. It's all rubbish.
I thought that snake-oil salesmen went out with the 1800's, but I see they're still alive-and-well today, and unfortunately, there's always a large group of suckers willing to part with their cash.

join a gym(or just borrow exercise tapes from the library) that way you don't just lose weight you get toned and you don't have to worry about side effects.

no. because none of them work, most of them are just speed, and if you really want to lose weight, the only way to do it is to reduce your calories consumed and increase activity to actually burn the calories you intake.

i'd ask a doctor first. everyones reaction to them is different. but the active ingridant in most is caffine. so it just depends.
