The way I tell if a pineapple is ripe is by the smell. Also look at the outside and see if it has mold or brown spots. This usually means that it will be brown inside. The leaf pulling doesn't always work. It's kinda like the melon thing sometimes you get a good one and sometimes it bad. If it has a nice pineapple smell then I buy it.

It you have a whole pineapple, take one of the leaves from near the center, and pull at it. If it comes out clean - with little to no resistance, it's ripe.

at first a pineapple is green so when it turns yellow a little then its ripe (if its too yellow then its getting old)
