Looking at the attractive micargi bike, but can't find any reviews. It has quality components (Shimano etc). Here's the link:

Question to all experts out there -- is this worth a try?

Looks like it's pretty comparable to a wal-mart bike. Not a good thing. No decent dual suspension mtn bike with disc brakes is going to be that cheap. For about the same price you could get a hardtail Gary Fisher or Trek with a much better (but still non-adjustable) suspension fork. It would have a much better drivetrain and be 5-10 pounds lighter. The last cheap bike I had only lasted about 500 miles, and that was probably more than most of them last. The cranks bent from pedaling uphill, the shock made an annoying squeak with each pedal stroke, and the forks just bottomed out and stayed there. The front shifter broke just riding around town on pavement. Even a low-end trek or fisher will last thousands of miles if you take care of it.

Nahhh.... skip this bike. Shimano has a very wide variance in quality. The ones in that bike are pretty low, and not worth it.

If you want a full suspension bike, you can check for Ibex Bikes Ignition 1:

It's not bad, the brakes aren't nothing to write home about, but it does the trick.

But you might do better with a hardtail. Trek, Kona, Specialized have some very good entry level bikes worth looking.

They are more of toy bikes. I think the distributor is somewhere in El Monte California. The Shimano they have are not even classified. Look for at least a Shimano Deore LX for mountain bikes.

Rscycle.com and bikesdirect.com have low priced great bikes.
