I'm sorry John, but I think you are trivialising the matter.
Over the weekend, I spent a few hours with a friend who has smoked for years and years. He has emphysema, which means that he has real trouble breathing and he has severe circulation problems.
It doesn't matter in the least whether his life might have been six weeks, six months or six years longer without smoking. The fact of the matter is that, right now, his quality of life is restricted and unpleasant.
Hardening of the arteries, loss of brain function, lung illness, these things are the reward for spending all that money on cigarettes, not just an earlier death.
