My wife is thinking about applying for a commission in the armed forces and we'd like to find a branch that will allow us to remain as physically close as possible while allowing her the best chance with an Intelligence career.

I would say the Air Force treats its people the best, and while you won't be able to avoid long deployments, they are still shorter and usually less frequent than the other services.

I'm currently an AF enlisted intelligence professional and you should also know that the AF is trying to reduce the number of intelligence officers right now (several of our lieutenants are getting out in the next few months). So while I recommend the AF, realize it might be tougher to get into than the Army or Navy.

I would say first try and get in. Is not as easy as what you think! I would recommend the Air Force. They are very good at keeping families together. But again I stress do not get the cart ahead of the horse, you need to make sure you are not worrying about something that may never come true! Army recruiter is full of Sh**. Af does not have much intel. Can you tell me what Cheyenne Mountain is in Colorado. The main Intel service for the entire military. I do not think almond joy is an Army recruiter by his language. Every branch of service goes to California to The linguist school. One of the few schools you go to in the military where all branches train together. And you do not take the ASVAB to get into OTS you take the Officer test which does comprise of some flying and Nav questions! Good Luck

Any branch you would like to serve. All branched have some type of intel, officers get their assignmemts to MI after or near getting their commission. On the enlisted side, it depends on what you like. Human Intel is a fast growing part of MI. The navy and AF dont have much of it due to how they deploy, marines and Army have more of it. They are the interrigators and such. There are UAV people, which all branches I think have. If you want to learn a language, go Army. The army has more foreign speakers than any other branch, it is just in their mission of what they do they needs them. Of course the big languages now needed are arabic in nature, but not limited to them. Research each branch and find what best suits you. Remember, you have to pass background checks and be VERY smart on the asvab.

Air Force usually needs more Intel Officers, but other branches, like the Navy and Special Forces also have a need for them.

As for being co-located together, don't count on it too much, because it depends on the billet and where she's needed.

Try Air Force first as they don't deploy like the other services. The Navy would be a distant second choice.

I'd look into the Navy or the airforce. You will most likely face long seperations at times in any branch of the military though, so expect that.

Intelligence Officer would be air force.

As far as staying close together - that's something you can never be guaranteed, you never know where they will need or send you.
