I've been friends since the priest at my church has been ordained *going on 4 years) and so many people find it strange for me to friends with the guy. I've had him help me with college papers and such also, which they can't understand either...Am i wrong to have a priest as a friend?

No, good for you. Priests are people. They are mostly good people. What you are doing is nothing short of what Jesus commanded us, LOVE ONE ANOTHER. If he is helping you, and you accepting him, there is nothing wrong.

It conjures for me memories of the Catholic priest rubbing his hand on my thigh when we had communion in school. I was eight.

Your priest is probably a great guy. Very likely he's moral and all that. But lately the clergy have a really bad reputation as far as being inappropriate with young people. That's why people may raise eyebrows.

No, of course not! I think it's wonderful that you're friends with your priest. I think a lot of people put too many expectations on their priests, thinking they're somehow supernatural and beyond their own human nature. Being a reverend priestess myself, I know how difficult it can be to live up to other people's expectations. Really, I'd rather be their friend and spiritual guide - not someone they stick up on a pedestal and hang on to their every word. That's kinda creepy.

There is a potential for the situation to be used; and abused. My (first) question is what do you mean by 'help'? Help as in coach? or help as in do?
The relationship can be 'abused' in other ways too; but hopefully it does not go that far. Just do not be naive about that aspect now.
To God's glory, may you receive today a large unexpected pleasant surprise!!!!

It's not strange. Priests are people too and have lives outside of the church. They have friends and family just like anyone else.

Certainly not. Priests are people, and like other people often have friends. They cannot have exclusive or intimate relations with other individuals, but friendships are certainly not a problem, as long as they remain just friendships.

Of course not. Priests need friends, too.

sounds like you're digging it, have no intention of not having the relationship, and want talk about it to enjoy the experience on another level. You're looking for encouragement to continue something you know is not a good situation - so what can we really tell you?

I don't think there's anything wrong with it...

Just remember that everybody is odd in their own little way. Everybody has their quirks.
