My left ear is plugged up and every now and then my jaw hurts but I do not have a cold or sinus infection . This has been going on for close to a week now. it does not hurt so I do not necessarily think I need to see the doctor. I would love to hear some ideas as far as home remedies. I already tried blowing my nose and holding my nose and blowing. Please help, this is really annoying!!

Also, I should probably add that I have been having the chronic runny nose that I usually have when the weather gets cold.

Try gently warming some olive oil (microwave it for a few seconds), check the temperature first then get someone (its easier if someone does it for you) to pour it in the affected ear. Hold your head to one side and keep the oil in there for a couple of minute. Have some tissue or cotton wool ready then tip your head up the other way and let the oil drain out. Hope it helps, be careful it is not to hot before you pour it away. The oil should melt any wax blocking your ear and drain it away, it should get where you cant reach.

You need to see a doctor if simple cold remedies are not helping. The sensation of your ear being plugged may be caused by a variety to things including allergies and infections, but it also can be an early sign of nerve and hearing loss.

I have the same problem once to twice a year. Home remedy>>
salt in a cup with warm water, stick in a straw, finger over the straw top to trap the salt water, tip your head back, let the solution run in, if it does not sting you do not have enough salt, 2 times a day and in 3 days it's gone!!!!!!!!

You may want to try ear wax removal, your ear collects wax over time and could be partially plugged up.

My doctor always tells me the best and safest way to do it is to plug you nose and blow like you're blowing your nose. It's usually helps me. Hope it helps :)

Simply pinch your nose and keep doing it and hold your breath. It will plug both ears and then swallow and it will unplug them. Good luck !!!
