That really depends. I don't think someone who has always enjoyed a glass of wine with dinner every night is necessarily an alcoholic. Many Europeans (and some Americans) enjoy a wine or even a beer with their meals. Not my taste personally, I've never liked the taste of alcohol but some enjoy it. And, let's face it, life is meant to be enjoyed.

Generally, I think that if alcohol is negatively affecting your life, finances, job, family life, mental & physical health and you are unable to quit, then you may be an alcoholic. You can google phrases like "Am I an alcoholic?" and get lots of quizzes to take to find out.

Medically yes. There is no need to drink every day. Some people like to drink a beer a day, which is an habit, but at the same time is creating dependency.

a person is only an alcoholic if they drink despite the consequences (ie bad relationships, passing out, health problems, etc) that come with drinking. the frequency that they drink doesn't matter that much.

I would definately say that there's an alcohol dependency. Slowly stop drinking so much and not such strong liquors. Slowly pace yourself and hopefully this problem will no longer be a problem.
