The first known accounts of Alcohol are for its use instead of water on long journeys across the desert. Wine would not stagnate in containers as water would, causing sickness.

It is believed that mead is the oldest alcohol beverage, dating back thousands of years. Honey was supposedly dilluted with water and the airborne yeast got into it and fermented it.

I JUST SAW THIS ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL AND IT WAS STARTED BY MONKS TO BE USED AS A MEDICAL TREATMENT,LIKE TONIC OR,THEIR FORM OF DOCTORING,THERE WAS A LOT OF HERBS AND OTHER NATURAL THING ADDED TO MAKE THE POTIONS,AND THEN IT KIND OF WENT CRAZY AFTER THAT
