Salt damages just about everything it comes in contact with for a prolonged amount of time. It will most likely dry your hair out. If you're looking to get a wavy or curly look then try this:
soak your hair just before bed & braid it (according to how wavy you want your hair- making more & tighter braid or less & looser) then let it dry overnight. take the braids out in the morning an tadaa! You should have wavy hair. If you're really desperate to keep the waves in then work some gel or curling styling mousse, into your hair before you braid it. This should help the hair stay wavy for a longer amount of time. You'll need to use a curling iron or curlers to make your hair super curly.

No I don't think salt damages normal hair, but supposedly it causes dyed or highlighted hair color to fade faster.
