I did it. My guy and I ran off to Hawaii and got the paperwork done there then got married the next day at sunset on the beach with a judge and a witness. I thought it was perfect but we didn't have a wedding dress or expensive flowers (just the ones on the trees!!) or a cake or a hundred guests etc.

We also didn't have the stress of making the day 'perfect' or of organizing the logistics of church/reception/catering/flowers. I got to enjoy making a commitment to the man of my dreams and hearing him make one to me. Perfect!

My brother in law had a beach wedding - they were married actually on the "bayside" of our local beach resort because it as the only location that did a private beach/waterside wedding. It was nice because there were no waves to compete with and the sun set over the water (we live in the East, and the sun rises over the ocean).

They did the sand ceremony. It was lovely - each set of parents added sand to each "child's" container. One had black sand one had white side - then the bride & groom each poured the sand in new container together and it naturally made a beautiful pattern of black/white.

The only thing was it took FOREVER and guests were beginnng to squirm in the awkward silence. Even the bride and groom were beginning to get uncomfortable.

I went to one last summer. The couple had rented a private home right on the beach for the wedding/reception. They set up an alter on the sand (decorated with flowers and gauzy fabric) and got married as the sun set. Prior to the ceremony, we even saw dolphins swimming by. The reception took place inside the house, with catered food and servers.

My husband and I wanted to, but when we found out that it was too far above our budget, we did an outdoor wedding with a beach theme, instead. It was great! I was nervous about the beach because of the weather, anyway. You don't want it to be cold and windy and get sandblasted on your big day. But if you really want to try it, go for it, I think those ceremonies are beautiful when the weather is good!

I really wanted to do that, but the money just wasn't there. There are some beautiful piers and gazebos available right on the beach, but the weather is a chance I wasn't quite willing to take on my wedding day. Some things I thought about were having the guests sit on beach towels, using seashells that guests found and wrote their names in as a guestbook of sorts in a jar, and messages in a bottle as invitations.

I got married in a pavilion right next to the sand then had the pictures taken on the sand, it was fantastic!!! I would definatly recommend it, it was also a lot cheaper than a marriage in a church and you get your honeymoon at the same time!

It looks beautiful in pics, wind, water all that good stuff but if u think about it, SAND... wind.. sand in eyes, hair blown all over. If it isnt windy then chances are it may be hot.. you dont want to have your guests sweating either. There are lots of ups and downs.. just do tons of research if this is something you are considering.

I would only have one suggestion. Don't wear a veil!! Otherwise it is just going to blow all over the place because of the breeze. If you do wear one make sure you wear it directly behind your head. Wear your hair up and have it clipped to the back. It can be really annoying otherwise.:)
