Lots of breeds could fit that description. Labs are a pretty common breed and make good running partners besides being good pets. You'll want a medium to large dog since most smaller dogs aren't suited to running longer distances. Sporting breeds such as spaniels and retrievers are bred to work in the field running for long periods of time. Herding breeds are also bred to run and love to do so. Hounds are also a group that runs to do their jobs, but some breeds are very focused on scents and don't always want to run in the same direction that you do if they pick up an interesting scent. Look at petfinder.com and see what dogs are available at the shelters in your area. Keep in mind that puppies and very young dogs need time for their bones and bodies to mature before they can run distances, so you might want to adopt a dog that is at least 18 months old if you want a running partner right away. Also, keep in mind that you'll have to build the dog up gradually to be fit enough to run with you - just like people, they need to work to get in shape and build up stamina.

Try a Basenji They are short haired don't shed or stink and they LOVE to run. I take care of a friends kennels when he's out of town and it's posted on the wall for all employees to see "NEVER let the Basenjis out you will never catcth them." They go nuts if you keep them locked up all the time but as a compaion they are great especially if you take them for regular runs. They are stubborn though.

I used to run with my canines each and all the time until eventually now he have been given too previous and arthritic lol, and he's a black lab X german shepherd. you only want a comfortable, nicely behaved canines. i think of it has much less to do with the breed and greater to do with the disposition of the animal. in case you reside in an house, you;re probable no longer likely to be waiting to get a huge 'protection' canines for the reason which you only won't have the gap for a extensive canines, this isn't any longer honest. circulate to the shelter and discover a mid length canines (border collie, spaniel, despite), consult with the folk that artwork there correct to the animals temperament.. if that's a barker, nicely behaved, etc. as long as its in fairly respectable shape well-being-smart, and better than like.. a shitzu, this is going to likely be fantastic for working lol.

German Shorthaired Pointers are excellent running partners! Check with your local GSP rescue or look on Petfinder. There are many available. Do your research on the breed first, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.
