perhaps instead of having the full and overwhelming responsibility of having a foster child you can volunteer at a homeless shelter or afterschool program for kids in your area. Or you could be a bis brother/big sister. but these kids have been through so much already and are sometimes so hard to deal with, that i would worry about putting them in an environment where you already struggle with depression/bi-polar disorder. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to help! They need more caring people like yourself to get involved in the systems we have in place to watch out for kids who need help.

Please, I'm not trying to be mean -- honest. However, if you struggle with depression and maybe even bi-polar disorder, I don't think caring for foster children would be the right thing for you. Those kids have been through so much and it would be difficult for you to handle their problems when you have some of your own to deal with. If you want to help less fortunate kids, how about volunteering as a mentor in your area? That way you can help children but you don't have to care for them full-time, which is huge responsibility.

It depends on the state but if you are proven to be in a good mental health/ physical health state, then they will probably let you foster a child.
