Apparently it is true that it can take a long time for your period to return when breastfeeding.
"Almost anything is considered normal when it comes to your periods while breastfeeding. All women experience a time of postpartum bleeding following birth which is not considered a menstrual period. If bottle-feeding, most mothers will have their first real period not long after this. Breastfeeding, however, suppresses menstruation at least for a while. For some mothers, there may be an absence of menstruation for weeks, months, and even years while still breastfeeding. Some mothers will even need to completely wean before they see their first period. Others, once their babies begin taking supplemental foods or sleeping longer periods at night, will see the first period. Once menstruation returns it may continue to be irregular during lactation. It's not uncommon to have a shorter or longer than normal period while breastfeeding. It's also not abnormal to skip a period or see the first period return and then find that months pass before the next one. "

It just depends on the person, your body decides this! I had a baby in March 2005, breastfed for 6 months and never got pregnant, and Never had a period. I had my second baby in May 2006, I have been breastfeeding her for 9 months and STILL havent had a period. I have heard of people that have gotten a period 2 months after having a baby (even when breastfeeding) and I have seen people that have breastfed for almost 2 years and NEVER had a period during that time!

Hi. I breastfed my son for 10 months and did not have a period at all during this time. My period only came back once I had stopped breastfeeding. Nevertheless, it doesnt mean you cant get pregnant during that time!! Apparently, you still ovulate.

after you have your baby you be bleeding for 2weeks and then after you won't have a period for a month in a half but with some women they can breastfeed and they won't have a period until then stop for good of breastfeeding but other then you will be after child birth and then you'll have a period a month later

It all depends on your body.
I personally breastfeed my two kids and didnt get my period till they were 18 months.
where as my friend breastfeed and got her period about a month after having her kid. So you just never know.
So relax and enjoy not having it for a while.

It can delay it, but I was disappointed that despite breastfeeding, my period returned at 4 months. I think it is less likely to return while you are frequent feeding, including through the night, but once you start to drop those night feeds, its hello flo!!! So what's it to be, sleepless nights or return of periods?

Hmm, I breastfed my first child and my period started in about 2 months. However, I don't think my boobs worked properly because even on one of those totally dehumanizing breast pumping machines it took forever to fill up a jar. I think mine are just for ornamental purposes.

I had my first period about four months after having my daughter. If you start to get worried about it then just speak to the health visitor.
