Secular humanism now rules Britain. The atheist, anti-Christian agenda is clearly already up and running, even those politicians that claim to be Christian (like Tony Blair) have a secular humanist agenda. Is it any wonder the country is in the biggest social, ethical and moral mess ever.
You want a name of a self declared atheist in politics: The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. Ask any sensible Londoner what they think of him and his policies? The biggest eegit ever!
We are likely rapidly heading towards a repeat of the last time atheists ruled, remember! when millions were brutally slaughtered in the Soviet Union, Red China, Cambodia etc. etc. Have we not learned the lesson of history?

there probably are but let's face it most see having some religious affiliation as a plus and gets them more votes so they choose one. they may still be atheists but they say they whatever the most popular belief is at the time for political purposes. one thing for sure about all politicians, democrat or republican, conservative or liberal very few if any are about what's right or wrong, its all about political power and money. don't kid yourselves when voting because all you can do is vote for the lesser of the evils.

Only American atheists in politics or in the entire world?

I agree that in the USA you probably won't find a politician who will admit to atheism, for this would lose him much needed votes. However, other countries of the world have politicians that are admitted atheists/agnostics. For instance, the first female president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, who just got elected in 2006, admitted in an interview that she is agnostic

Not in the US. This just points out how biased people are in this country toward the religious. Atheists don't get elected.

I don't know about US politics but in Europe and the UK especially a majority of politicians are atheists or have no strong religious convictions. Why America remains so backwards in that respect I don't know.

There are many quotes that I read in The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins that pretty much sums up that most of our founding fathers were atheists or atleast agnostics. I can pull up some quotes if needed :]

Almost all of our politicians are atheists--in practice. They merely talk like they're churchgoing to con the voters. The atheist can at least take comfort in not being used as an excuse to lie.

You can search Wikipedia "atheist discrimination" and find public offices that are illegal for an atheist to hold. People actually passed laws to discriminate based on lack of religion.
