It's free and may turn up some results for you. If you know your dad's birthday, it will help narrow down results. Make sure you enter the state, too. If that doesn't give results, you might want to try a nationwide search...he may have moved.
If you don't find exactly who you're looking for, perhaps you can send a form letter stating you are searching for him and if they know of this person to please contact you via e-mail or cellphone (I wouldn't give out more; just as a safety precaution).
I know it will cost you several postage stamps, so it'll depend on how much you want to find him.
