My simple answer is anywhere, within reason.
I was born and raised in Manchester and in spite of the ribbing that most cities get, Manchester is a great city. All areas, not just the Sale area, are good areas to be brought up in.
What counts as a 'good' area doesn't necessarily mean every student in every school gets 10 A* GCSEs or every house costs 250k. I was a good intelligent pupil and my high school rewarded and supported that. They also supported all the other bright pupils and pupils with talents (such as sports).
If an area isn't listed or necessarily seen as a 'good' area, it doesn't inherently make it a 'bad' area. Moston, Clayton, Blackley, Didsbury, Chorlton. There's little difference. Wherever you live in Manchester you have 1 distinct advantage - you're in a great city with lots to offer to young people, whether it be early schooling, high school, university, starting work.
I live in Manchester if you have any further questions! Good luck.

I live in Northern Moor which is very close to a large park - Wythenshawe park, there are lots of schools to choose from and we have the Forum Centre a short bus ride away which has all sorts for the kids - the park is great though!

Failsworth is nice it borders on Oldham/Manchester. I would recommend living somewhere like there. Its inbetween the town and the city and you get the best of both worlds! I would not like to put down where not to live incase I offend anyone living there! I can say I lived in Newton Heath for 7 years and it was not the best area and I struggled to sell my house. I had to wait for the property boom again before it sold for a decent price.

I used to live in Manchester and I absolutely loved it. Don't listen to what others are saying about crime. Statistically I guess it is true, however, in reality it is the gang members who are shooting each other, not just random people.
Longsight, Victoria Park and Rusholme, Fallowfield (gets a bit over-run with students though), Didsbury are all lovely places. I especially highly recommend the first three.

I can start with telling you not to move to any of the following: Moss-side,Collyhurst,Salford,Oldham,Crumpsall,Cheetham Hill,Blackley....!! They are big no no!!You will find the housing cheap there but for a reason. Try Heaton Park,Prestwich,Sedgely Park areas they're lovely quiet suburbs with little trouble, lower crime rates and decent schools. They're about 5 miles out of the city centre with great transportation, shops, facilities etc.

Don't
Gun and gang crime capital of the UK, main spot for drive by shootings as some somehow insulted somone by maybe looking at them in a way they didn't like.
Me and mates were minding own business when some idiot came up to us trying to pick a fight simply as we were from London and nearly pulled a knife trying to kill us simply as where were not locals.
Moss side would be the worst...
Think american ghetto of guns and crack gangs.
Your kid will end up clubbing in the same places as these chav and other psychos... if lucky will reach 22nd birthday
