You dont say how old you are but I've always had creaking knees and although they have never been a problem up till now I would wear supports if I was running.

Also perhaps training is more important as well as wearing supports so that you dont damage yourself by perhaps exercising more than you usually do.

You do see lots of sports people wearing knee supports so it cant hurt can it.

This actual could be the initial signs of something more serious. I can relate as I had same symptoms. I saw a specialist and found that I have a common aliment that many runners suffer and never have diagnosed. Its called "Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome". Its caused from certain leg muscles in your thighs being more developed than the others. This over development causes the muscles to physically pull your knee cap to the left or right of the natural groove that it is suppose to track within.(for me my knee tracks outward) Overtime this constant pull will wear the knee cap and the leg bone in the wrong places and will become very painful. It can be fixed without surgery if you catch it early enough by doing simple leg exercises that focus on developing the under developed leg muscles. If you don't believe me talk to a specialist. or look it up on line, there is alot of information about this out there. Good luck and keep running!
