Diets are tough. I have been through many, and finally found a plan that works.
I'm 5'11 240 down from 260.
I simply stopped drinking soda (except for the occasional diet coke) and started riding an exercise bike 5 days a week for 30 minutes, with time for stretching before hand. I have lost 20 lbs in a month.
Once you get on a steady diet and a little exercise your body will tell you VERY sternly if you do something it doesn't like. For instance if I eat fast food I pay twice... the 2nd time doesn't involve cash if you know what I mean.
As for food... eat like a caveman. Our bodies have evolved to take in certain foods over the millions of years we have been on the planet, and straying too far from our ancestral norm isn't good.
The biggest problem our society faces is sugar. Try to cut out the sugar and get some exercise and I guarantee you will drop some pounds. Not sure how much that guarantee is worth coming from a random person on the internet, but give it a shot... what have you to loose?
GOOD LUCK!
