<---that's my pup Zandar (husky/wolf), more pics on my 360 account.

Congrats on your pup...they are excellent dogs. Lots of people here have posted some strange things about owning huskies...such as typically run away, etc. Huskies are classified as escape artists, no off leash dogs...but my experience has proven otherwise. It is like saying all pitbulls attack, it's all in the owner and how you raise/train your dog. The great thing about a husky is that they are very intellegent breeds, sometimes too much. They love playing tricks, my husky likes to hide behind corners and scare the living crap out of me when I come around the corner...he thinks it's soooo funny when I scream bloody murder. They are VERY active dogs...throughout their lifespan...so be prepared to walk longer than most dog owners...I am outside for about 2 hours a day (and that's during the week) about 10 on the weekend wearing my pup out! They like to dig, but this can be trained out of them (use of sawdust in holes works great). They are big chewers...so make sure to get the heavy duty kongs when he grows up...and be sure to train no chewing furniture at a young age...my pup has never gone for any furniture, but we bought a million toys too! :o) If you have any small animals (ie a cat)...don't listen to what others may say...my kitty and husky cuddle all the time and he's never thought of him as a treat...but he also considers his kitty part of his pack...so he may go for rabbits in the wild, etc...but what dog wouldn't right? They CAN be trained off leash, but make sure you do this training in an enclosed park, etc. They love to run...and will run and run and run...invest in a good pair of roller blades...it's so fun in the summer! Shedding is HUGE....if he's going to be outside, you'll only have two "blowing of coats" a year...but if he's inside...buy a great dog brush and make sure to brush him alot...we have a cuddle/brush session every night! Nice thing is though that huskies are such clean clean dogs...they will bathe themselves all the time and they don't have the dog odor which is nice too! (well unless wet) Enjoy you're new baby...they are excellent pets...good choice!! If you ever need any other advice, I've probably encountered it with my lil buggah...email me if you like!

You should have done the research before getting the dog. They are good dogs, But they are runners, made to run, never let that dog outside with out a leash, I had 2 and a fenced in yard, Somehow my boy always got out, it was a mystery until I set up a camera and fixed the problem, They need alot of attention and exercise, if they don't get those they will destroy things or worse leave. It is known that huskies run and run and run and turn around and don't remember how to get home. Do research yourself go on-line or get books about the breed to help you.Good luck

myniece had two. Deja was very sweet but needed to ran(like all huskys do) and her brilliant boyfriend took her rollerblading when it was 90 last summer. She died of a heat stroke. Her new pup she just got 3 weeks ago was gourgus. she couldt understand why it wouldnt stay in the yard and thought the labs did so so would she. i told her she should tie up when letting her out potty or build a large run for her. 2 minutes after putting her out last night she got hit by a car and died. Need exercise, can be stubborn, will shed alot and most likely will not stay in the yard.

I used to have a Siberian huskey. They need to have a lot of room for exercise. They love to run. So if you take them on a walk have fun. They shed alot. But overall they are an awesome dog. I had one that had two bright blue eyes. His name was Kanook. Oh I loved him soooo much. Good Luck.

Good - Beautiful, sweet, smart, athletic
Bad - Hyper, prone to escaping, likes to run..a lot!..shedding, loud criers and barkers, can be highly destructive and prone to seperation anxiety, prone to nordic breed ailments like hip dysplasia, cushings disease, cardio myopathy, liver disease and bone cancers.

You should have done this homework BEFORE you got the dog. But I hope you invest in a good brush and LOTS of obedience and socialization classes. The are GREAT dogs but need a lot of human interaction. Don't EVER leave them outside alone - they'll disappear, dig, climb fences. If it's not a puppy don't let it near your cat - Huskies are prone to killing smaller animals.

You have your work cut out for you - good luck!

Neither! this is plenty too vast of a team to communicate! A nicely bred purebred would be healthiest. THe breeders study pedigrees and do a lot of well-being screening. they are able to stay away from issues that arise in that breed. As for poorly bred canine- mutts and poorly bred purebred- it relies upon on that concern. some mutts could be extra advantageous off than very inbred purebreds, yet some purebreds nevertheless could be extra advantageous off by using fact the mutts might desire to be from those inbred canine and then they have the possibility of ailments for 2 breeds somewhat of one! there is not any foundation to asserting that mutts are fit. they arrive from the right comparable inventory as all those purebreds with a "smaller gene pool", why might desire to they magically be fit purely by using fact which you randomly mixed the genes? stable well-being comes from making plans, which demands a time-honored meaning purebred and strong breeders. look after canine are large, yet do no longer in basic terms get one by using fact which you think of it is going to likely be fit by using fact it jsut isn't real.

congrats!!! very awesome dogs. Alot of them run away though, make sure he's in an inclosed area, or on a leash. They can also be prone to skin infections. Keep them out of the heat in the summertime. Best wishes!

a girl friend of mine has 6 of them. She loves them to death. She has trained to be sled dogs. The only down side that I have ever seen is the hair that they shed. So keep an eye on vacuum cleaner so you don't burn the eng out on it. They are really good dogs.
