It probably means that they think you are confused about your goals, where you are at in life or about the world around you. What do you really believe about things....perhaps, rather than just "going along with the flow".
Do you have opinions about life? What are your goals? Who are your friends...and why are they your friends? Are they good for you?
Are you moving ahead in your life? Are you participating in some thing that may not be good for you....might even eventually hurt you in some way? Do you need to change some things?
You are the one in charge of your life. Think about it. That's what they mean.

I would not want anyone to do it the way I did, but what it took for me was going to prison where I got in a earned release program.
I was in group 40hrs a week for six months. I went in an alcoholic, self centered person. Now, I can live in my own skin. I'm thoughtful of others, and love to help others, specially other alcoholics. I had to re educate myself in correct thinking, clean house, and make amends to those I have hurt by my actions. Forgive others and forgive myself. None of it was easy, took me 3yrs of working and practicing the things I've learned to be who I am today. I like me today!

Basically it just means you need to look at where you are in life and where you want to go in the future. What goals do you want to accomplish, you need to know and love yourself before you can love anyone else.

I hear that alot also. It means you need to find peace with your inner person. When you find yourself you know what you want to do with your life.

You have to find your groove, things you like because you like them, not just because their popular,be yourself and live life with no regrets, then you wont need to make a special trip to figure out you like your self just the way you are.

In a nutshell, it is really hard to have a successful relationship if you are unhappy with who you are. Or as one of my favorite expressions says, "To know two, you must first know one."
Other people won't make you happy. You have to find what makes you happy. You have to know what you will put up with, and what you won't. You have to know what you want out of a relationship. And you have to know what you want from friend as well as lover.
Once you know those things, you are much better prepared to have a successful relationship. Not knowing those things makes life a lot harder.

I just want to say that I was going to give Garylian a thumbs up, but accidentally gave a thumbs down (sorry!) I think his/her answer is the best one and you should listen to his/her advice.

It means take time to know what is important to you. Most of us know what we want s o m e w h a t we need to know period. If we take time and are able to put it into words and clearly speak it, then we have found ourselves.

It means getting in touch with you, your feelings, and what is most important to you. Just making decisions about your life and what you want.
