No, lice do not have wings nor do they jump. They aren't like fleas. Lice get spread by sharing of combs, brushes, hats and things like that. Sometimes in the close quarters of school classrooms, they can get from one persons head to another just by their heads touching. It doesn't matter how "clean" you keep your childrens hair, as a matter of fact, lice loves nice clean hair that they can attach the nits (eggs) to. Teach your child to never share hats, combs, brushes, and other things of the sort. If your child does get them, RID is a good product. Put all the childs stuffed animals in sealable plastic bags for at least a week. Wash all the bedding in the house and buy a spray for the carpet (if you have it). Treat everyone in the house. Nits can be stubborn to get rid of. It is time consuming. Hope that this helps.

Best chemical products are RID or R/C Shampoo. If you want to go no chemical, mineral oil will also work; work it thru the the hair like shampoo, put on a plastic shower cap and wait 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and comb thru with a nit comb.

You do not have to wait for lice to appear before treating. I would strongly recommend that you treat your son and yourself now. It takes 7 to 10 days for lice to appear after initial contact. Treating your family now, will help to get rid of nits (lice eggs) now. It is best to retreat after 7 to 10 days to ensure that all the nits/lice have been eradicated. (Lice have a 10 day hatching cycle.) And wash everything; bedding, pillows, all clothing that you have been in contact with, towels. A can of Lysol spray will be your best friend for furniture; spray the furniture (sofa, chairs, beds), wait twenty minutes and vacuum. Repeat this as much as you want. You can even just spray your pillows with Lysol, place them in a sealed plastic bag and put them in a cold place (large freezer, or outside) for a day or two; then put the pillows thru a hot dryer.

Lice don't fly - they jump like fleas.

Rid or Nix are the best products over the counter. Be sure you comb your child's hair with the fine toothed comb and get rid of every single nit (baby louse) in the hair. Also soak any combs and brushes in a solution made with the lice shampoo. Wash any bedding in the hottest water allowed for the fabric. Put any hats or stuffed animals in a plastic bag and seal it tight for a couple of days or a week. Vaccuum EVERYTHING - every chair, the beds, even the car upholstery! If you miss even one of those little buggers, you've gotta do this ALL over again!!

They don't fly but they do jump. FAR. RID is the best product. But there are other ways of getting rid of them too. For instance, putting tea tree oil in your shampoo will help them stay away. And if you do end up with them putting olive oil in your hair and then a plastic bag over it for as long as you can will kill them and help them be removed easier. And of course, you'll have to wash EVERYTHING! Good luck I hope you don't get them because they are really hard to get rid of.

they don't fly, the over the counter shampoo works well buy generic store brands they work just as well in the mean time to avoid getting it because once it starts in a classroom it can be a nightmare, use dawn dish liquid to shampoo your child's hair, for some reason this helps , if i get a note home like that i usually treat my child's hair anyway, because once they get into it it can be very difficult to get rid of
