Boiling water start medium egg 4 1/2 minutes. If egg used straight from refrigerator add 30 seconds.

Take out of boiling water & immerse in cold water for a few seconds to stop the cooking process.

Fresh eggs take longer to cook than older eggs as the air sac is very small. Cook for an additional minute if the eggs are very fresh

Time the cooking from the moment of immersion, keep the water simmering not boiling vigorously, which tends to crack the shells, toughen the whites & cause discolouration

Always carefully lower eggs in using a perforated spoon.

Depends on the size the egg but for an egg at room temperature boiled from cold water, 2:45 to 3:00 minutes.

as we all know the great delia smith is the expert on how to cook eggs - i know that many doubt this but i tried her recipes on how to boil and poach eggs and i am telling you this woman knows what she is talking about!!!

according to delia:

First of all have a small saucepan filled with enough simmering water to cover the eggs by about 1/2 inch (1 cm). Then quickly but gently lower the eggs into the water, one at a time, using a tablespoon. Now switch the timer on and give the eggs exactly 1 minute's simmering time. Then remove the pan from the heat, put a lid on it and set the timer again, giving the following timings:

6 minutes will produce a soft, fairly liquid yolk and a white that is juset set but still quite wobbly.
7 minutes will produce a firmer, more creamy yolk with a white that is competely set.

Soft-boiled eggs are typically cooked by placing the eggs in a pan of boiling water and then set to simmer for 3.5 - 4 minutes. An egg timer can be used to measure the time the egg is boiled.

Due to the undercooked yolk, soft-boiled eggs are not recommended for people who may be susceptible to salmonella, such as very young children, the old, and those with weakened immune systems.

well if you want a nice soft egg I would say 2 to 3 min´s once the water starts to boil. I normally wait 2 min´s then take a spoon lift the egg out and if the shell dry´s all over straight away then my egg is ready , don´t forget to run it under the cold tap just for a few min´s if you want the shell to come off clean , but in this case I´m sure your going to cut it´s little head off so you can get your toast in

Hi Wayne!

First you need to get yourself an egg piercer if poss o a darning needle if unable to find a piercer.

To find the right spot of the egg to pierce place the bottom end of the egg on your lips (best to do this when not being observed as it does look kind of weird!) and you will find a bit about the size of a penny that is warmer than the rest of the egg. This is the bit you want to put a hole into as it is the air sack that will expand as it heats and will crack your dream boiled egg unless there is an outlet for the air.

Timings...large egg into boiling water from room temp 4mins and into cold water or 3 mins 45 secs and left in the hot water

medium eggs are approx 30 seconds less

small eggs aren't worth cooking anyway.

Always store your eggs at room temp as salmonella viruses actually thrive in cooler conditions

and please please ensure that you use proper butter on the soldiers!
