I'm looking into getting a small flock of backyard chickens this spring and I want ones that tend to be gentle, lay fairly well (brown eggs are best), and will set and rear young (chickens of certain breeds have the tendency to go broody basically bred out of them- especially those used only for egg production.) Thanks!

Silkys are excellent for hatching eggs out. Keep in mind once a chicken goes broody she tends to stay that way for a while. We have a variety of chickens, RI reds, Oppingtons, Cochins, Crossbreeds and 1 silky. The silky is the broodiest one ever. And the funny thing is chickens don't care whose eggs they set on. They don't know if its theirs or not. They just want to set on the eggs. If you do get a chicken to set move it to its own location so she is not disturbed by the others. You'll have better success.

I unquestionably have a bantam poultry and usual length hens and that they are basically advantageous. I unquestionably have a classic customary poultry and bantam hens besides...in addition they artwork advantageous...I on no account had a chick die as a results of dimensions of the poultry or chicken. in case you opt for to take the chicken over on your neighbor's poultry, they might could desire to be at the same time for couple days as a results of fact the chicken won't extremely basically settle for the poultry.
