Many claim to hear God today, but we know that they are usually suffering from a mental imbalance whther it be drug induced or a naturally occurring dysfunction. Could this be an explanation for many of the sightings and occurrences that are said to have occurred in the Bible.

prphet of doom: This is not a joke, and do not use my daughter for your rhetoric. If she was mentally challenged, that would not change a thing.

Yes it is possible anything is possible but it is also possible they may have heard the voice of god. No one can tell but no matter what happened look at the faith it has given many people, whether these people were crazy or not the words of them even over thousands of years ago has given people today hope to go on in life, we all need something to believe in at times to help us with our struggles, so does it matter whether it is real or not if it is doing good for people?

No, I disagree. To many prophets were used to warn the people. How is that mental dysfunction ? It is spiritual to start with. No drug inductions, no. and since physical proof exists of biblical happenings and events. No again. Egypt simply refuses testing of the most well remembered of the parting of the sea. Chariot wheels have been found, egypt refuses testing. There is evidence out there that the events in the Bible are absolutely true !!

I have been saying that for years! I honestly believe the prophets in the bible were suffering from some kind mental disorder, and just said it was God because they didn't know any better. Even schizophrenics can be high functioning and lucid enough to cobble together a story.

Of course! Part of the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia centers around delusions (the most of the time consisting of religious stuff). Onset of schizophrenia is typically about age 20ish... but can be as late as 30. Maybe that's why we know nothing of christ until after his adolescence. He may have been healthy until then, and only showed up after he became ill.

Besides... there was a family history, with his mother and all.

Thereby, the ' Pauline' church because the early Roman Catholic church became said as, popular the philosophies of a mad guy. so a concepts as Moses, it is fairly obvious that he 'borrowed' the ten Commandments from the earler writings of Hammurabi, and used them to unify and administration the plenty for the time of their 40 years of wandering. hence, he became a carry close baby-kisser, no longer a Prophet in accordance to se.

I think possibly Joan of Ark could have suffered with it. You can have both audio, and visual hallucinations. There is also that mould that grows in wheat and is like LSD or something. It is possible that some visions could have been triggered by something other than God.

All supernatural events of mere humans prophesying the Word of God will always seem like Schizophrenia. How we can discern is whether they are of God or Satan. Check their rantings against the Word of God (the Bible ) to be sure that they are of God.

Example , when the person preaches Sexual immorality like Muhammad or Joseph Smith - you can be sure they are of Satan.

People who have a mental imbalance rarely make any sense.
You can tell the truth of things by asking yourself, why would God do this? This is why mental patients, when they go over the edge, rarely turn into serial huggers and helpers.
