Snoring is a common problem and the solution is not always easy. It's usually caused by the epiglotus getting thrashed about in the throat when one breathes and is relaxed. Snoring is made worse by conditions like obesity and sinus congestion. In severe cases, the patient may develop sleep apnea where they stop breathing several times during the night.

There are many over-the-counter remedies as others have suggested and I've personally tried them all including breathe right and throat sprays. If those don't work, you should consult your doctor and get a referral to have a sleep-study done. This is where you will go into a lab and actually spend a night in there under observation. They can then determine more accurately what the problem is and how to correct it.

They may recommend exercise or a diet change, nasal sprays, surgery to correct a deviated septum or a breathing machine.

In the meantime, for his peace of mind I recommend that he use some foam earplugs so he can get a good night's sleep. My wife has resorted to these on occasion and while it doesn't stop my snoring (or hers) but it does help us rise refreshed each morning.

One other thing to consider is the air quality in your room. If you have animals or other contaminants, it can cause nasal problems and force the snorer to breathe through their mouth more. Something to think about.

Breathe right strips or some of those ear plugs like Meredith got for Dr. McDreamy on Grey's anatomy. HA HA! I'm sorry. I know its not funny to you. I know how your boyfriend feels. My boyfriend snores so loud that it wakes me up all the time. I can usually just shake him a little bit and he stops long enough for me to go back to sleep. If not, I just lay there and laugh cause I can't believe such a cute sweet person can make that kind of noise.

Snoring loud is a symptom of something more serious. The most common health issue related to snoring is Sleep Apnea. See your doctor and get a referral to a sleep clinic ASAP. Sleep Apnea is not something to put off. You could literally die in your sleep! And not to mention it causes problems with your heart and with severe sleep deprivation which will make you feel sleepy all the time. It happens to overweight people with short necks, but it also happens to skinny people with a recessed chin (that's what I've had). They can do surgery to correct the situation or at least to help with the symptoms. Removing the tonsils will help with the snoring. Also sleep on your side. Good luck!

Try a contour pillow it repositions your neck and head so you breath better and snore less. I tried the strips and the ENT as well as a sleep study this is the only thing that worked and they are about $10 at Ikea. Good Luck!

Not too much you can do personally. Your doctor could check your nose for blockage or narrowing of the nasal passage. If you are overweight the uvula can sag into the throat causing it to vibrate and then you create snoring. But see an ENT. It could be lots of things.

I'll go off the assumption that you're an average woman. This means you're probably 30 lbs overweight. Overweight people tend to have more ENT problems. I would recommend a good exercise regiment consisting of alot of cardio, with decreased caloric intake. The results won't be overnight, but eventually these problems will go away, and you'll be more attractive too.

Try those breath right strips that go across your nose. They work wonders. Also, tell him to flip you over if you're on your back, that'll stop it for awhile.

Most of the old ones they advise to just wake you up whenever you snore too loud...I guess you can try that...
