I've seen math equations about the distance of the moon and such...Does anyone know what evidence is used by Creationists to prove that the earth is that young?

((Personally, I don't believe it to be true, but I'm just wondering))

The Bible lineages can be traced back to between 6000 and 9000 years ago for Creation.

If you are predisposed to evolution or other viewpoint, you may discredit the notion.

On the other hand, if you believe the Biblical account, you realize the earth may have been much different 6000 years ago. The Great Flood fundamentally changed everything. For example, the quantity of oil from cabon-based life we see today could not possibly have been created by even all the life we have on earth today. The notion is that when God seperated the waters above from those below, the waters above created a sort of greenhouse effect that led to tropical life everywhere. The Flood included this water coming down as well as from the earth's crust to flood even the highest mountain. Before the Flood the amount of oxygen in the air was far greater than today. After the Flood, the oxygen levels dwindled - and are continuing to dwindle. The pressure and effect of the flood on the surface of the earth was tremendous, and sufficient to turn the lush forests on their way to oil. The silt deposited on top is evident in many places around the world. The Carbon-14 dating is also affected by the Flood, making the extrapolation done today, woefully wrong.

You can do alot of your own searching on the ideas of Creation Science for yourself...most of which is scientifically rooted and performed by scholars. Unfortunately, the secular world denies God, and therefore will not permit such teachings, however truthful and far more plausible than , for instance, evolution, in our nation's classrooms. It's is really a shame-a form of dark ages, if you will.

I don't believe that anyone thinks that the Earth is 6000 years old, but that man was placed on Earth 6000 years ago. Some believe that since the Earth was made in "7" days and that a year here is like a thousand to God means that the earth is about 7000 years old. It could be understood to say that it wasn't really 7 days but 7 periods- how long were the periods?
We know that matter cannot be created in the sense that it's made from nothing. It's my belief that the earth was organized with material that has already existed, that the earth was shaped and made from material that may have had some shape or order to it. That material is most likely (b)millions of years old.

Most realistic Christians, cannot think that the earth is 6000 years old. That belief was established by priests who counted all the Begets and estimated at 6000 year date for the existence of mankind. But nowhere in the Bible does it state an age for the earth.

Creation could have taken millions of years, the writer of Genesis may not have understood that when interpreting the divine inspiration given to him.

I think the only Christians that hold onto the 6000 year date now are doing so out of tradition, and most would cringe if they found out that Catholic priests were the ones that came up with that number.

Creationists are not insisting that the earth's age is 6000 years old as of today. As it has been understood that in Gods' time, one day for Him is like a thousand years in human calendar, it will mean that creation took 6000 years to develop. Then various ancient religions and civilizations came many thousand years also before the written Old Testament of the Jews. That Old Book alone is no longer 6000 years old if you will add the years from the lives of Adam through Abraham and his descendants till Jesus" death to present which is more or less than 7000 years and also add the number of years before him in Buddha's time which was calculated to have been 2500 years also before Jesus. Buddhism came before Hinduism that must have been on earth even before the great earth's change. So, I would suggest that you also have to think deeply before you try to insult the creationists. They just said it took 6000 years to create the world including man and animals but they never suggested that that the world is 6000 years old as of today. Whatever number of years after that is the world today is for us to learn through science.

There is 0, nada, nicht, zip, zero evidence to even begin to seriously declare the earth to be only 6000 years old. The Flintstones was not a documentary, man did not live side by side with dinosaurs. Remember, the Bible may be at best 6000 years, but that has more to do with man finally writing and forming societies more than the time of earths creation.

There is no empirical evidence. The Creationists simply use scripture and math (by adding the time between certain biblical events) to come to the number 6,000. This website explains it if you are interested to see where that # first came from.

There's no proof whatsoever, unless you try and twist the evidence to fir the theory, which is exactly what the young earthers do. It shows a complete lack of knowledge as far as scientific processes go. They came up with a theory and then, when the facts didn't fit, they used lies and deciet to try and make them fit.

Yes, they came up with 6,000 because they believe that we literally came from Adam and Eve. The Bible has accounts of the lineage from that point and their belief forces them to say that everything started about 6,000 years ago based on the Bible and how long people lived at the time (100s of years for some of them). Gives you an idea of how silly the idea is.

Fine line between faith and willful ignorance.

Man has been on the earth 6000 years, but the bible doesn't say how old the earth is.

It's not 6000 years old and they know it because in Gen-2 it mentions that god put man in the garden where the gold is good.

They know how long gold takes to form.
