Sounds exciting!
It's hard to tell how old you are and just what the timeline is from what you said. Are you still in school currently? If so, what? College? Do I understand you right, that you are now living in separate countries?
All these things make a difference. If you're very young, I can understand why you would want to wait a while before making a lifelong commitment. If you're living apart, it might seem like an overreaction on his part to being away from you and being afraid of losing you. These are things to consider in deciding if this is the right time.
If you want to marry him but you don't feel ready, or don't want to do anything until you get out of school, there is always the option to have a long engagement and set the date for when you are out of school.

The true question is would he have proposed to you if you weren't going to school. It sounds like his proposal was reactive to your leaving the country. You have been together for quite some time, but you should be propsed to because he wants to and is ready for the commitment, not just scared of being alone. If your relationship is strong, it will last without the engagement. If it is not strong, it will not last even with the engagement. My opinion is that you say no. I'm not saying you break up, but don't have this weighing over you while you're away at school. You should be engaged to out of sincere love and not fear.

I am not sure what you are saying, you said you had to leave your country because of school. If your boy friend really loves you, he will wait for you to finish school, come to you while you are still in school or build the world that he wants for the two of you by the time you get back home.
If he is thinking with his (little head), He will act just like a little baby that will make your life a living hell. Don't give up the opportunity of an education for someone that can not provide the opportunities that you would be able to provide for yourself.

Is he proposing because he was planning to spend the rest of his life with you, or is he proposing so you won't go away?
Sounds simple, right? Ask him where he sees himself five years from now. Ask him if he can wait until you come back from school. There is love of great intensity and love that will last, and they're often two different things.

ahhh well first of all how old are you, because its not that easy getting married, and if your family of friends disagree, well i say listen to them and what they have to say, because at your young age, you really dont want to make big mistakes like this. if your older and more mature, you should take time to think about this carefully, and decide yourself, and dont let anyonw else make this decision for you. at the end of the day, you should really listen to your heart, and what you want to do, and your will make the right decision in the end. hope this helps xx

If you love him, then say "YES" and marry him. It is natural being excited and scared at the same time. Sounds as if he loves you very much, I hope you say yes. Best wishes to you both!
