The argument for women being excluded from the priesthood has to do with the misguided notion that because Jesus had no female apostles, women should not hold the priesthood. This of course is flawed on so many levels that I could not tell you all of it here. Suffice to say that when the church was first formed, men were the power of the day. Given that patriarchy was common, it made sense to have only men in positions of power and using the apostle excuse was a perfect out. Sadly, what many in the Church neglect to note is that Christ had women in His inner circle. They include Mary, Mary Magdela and Miriam. It was Mary Magdela who Christ first showed Himself to upon His resurrection. It was Mary, His mother to whom he committed John.

At the end of the day, the only reason is strictly political and sexist and has no real bearing from scripture.

Because Catholacism is a relegion based in ancient feudal ideas of power and control of the "masses", and plain evil double standard nonsenese and bigotry. They assume they have the right to tell women how many babies to have, assume atoning for any wrong doing is corrected by talking to some stranger in a half secret box and rubbing some beads while mumbling, assume a fool who once skipped around with the Hitler youth has a hot line to God and can tell us what to do and assume they can make the life of gay people, orphaned children and single mums living hell in the name of God. While a good percentage of their holy servants, Priests and Nuns, have a record which is contemptable on the physical and sexual abuse of minors that were placed in their care. It is a reasonable musing as to why women should not be allowed in the preisthood, but when you unpick the hypocrasy and cruelty of this organisation it's not difficult to see why they don't.

Paul pretty much put that to rest. He felt that women were of some use if your mule died and you needed a beast of burden or a maid, but he had little use for them and the church followed along. Thomas Aquinas also had something to say about it. His family locked him in a tower room for a year because they wanted him to marry and the thought of what he had to do with a woman on his wedding night was so abhorrant that he did not marry. His teaching also influenced the church on women.

Just because men and women have different roles does not mean they are unequal. Women are naturally more spiritual then men and have the power closest to God in our earthly life, that of giving life. In our modern society child birth is considered a burden and something that holds woman beneath man, but this is not the case. Men need the priesthood to bring them up to the level of women and to enable them to become more Godlike. At least this is my opinion.

Father K put it the best! Remeber that woman and men are equal but not the same. Women play huge roles in the Church - Mary, Mary Magdeline, the first to meet the resurected Jesus, and of course all the women saints. God Bless!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church currently states:

The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry.

The Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible.

With love in Christ.

The most recent official explanation from the Vatican is that women "do not physically resemble Christ". Seriously, that's the best they could come up with. The historical explanation appears to be that, although women played a predominant role in the early church (Paul himself admitted that "in Christ there is no male or female"), men got the upper hand when Constantine legalized Christianity. They erased or altered as many references to female leaders as they could get away with (not all), and refused to let go of the reins of power ever since.

The argument is that as all of Jesus's apostles were male all priests
should be male.
The deeper question is why priests at all? You will not find any Christian priests in the New Testament

because religion is an antiquated belief system that has no place in modern society. They cannot tolerate an evolution of ideas because that would mean being intelligent, following logic, and ultimately come to the conclusion that there is no god in the form of religion, only love in the form of a collective consciousness, a simple realisation that everything is one.

Therefore Priests, and Priestesses, are no longer necessary and should retrain for skills useful in the real world.
