We live in both New England and Québec. Our faves:
(1) Trader Joe's (for obvious reasons for anyone who knows TJs) - tied for No 1 as the best grocery store in the USA in a recent issue of Consumer Reports.
(2) MarketBasket (tied for No 6). Comparatively inexpensive, incredible employee morale and customer service, old fashioned style of mangement, straightforward presentation of inventory without affectaciousness and because of its many stores in ethnic areas a surprisingly large selection of exotics.
(3) Atwater Public Market. A real European-style marketplace.
All three usually are very, very crowded, which can be an irritant or add to the fun, depending on one's mood.

Wegmans - They aren't the closest, not the cheapest, but have the best selection, the best food, and the stores are HUGE.
I can get everything from fresh made Sushi, to gourmet sandwiches and pizza, to takeout Chinese. Not to mention the BEST chocolate cake ever. If I go to the BIG Wegmans, I love going into their patisserie.

I love Sherms Thunderbird here in Oregon. They have great prices and good quality meats. They are also open 24/7 so it's easier to shop for ppl that are on a schedule.

I shop at Super WalMart because it is most affordable and it has such a large variety. I go to a local little shop for soul food items. It smells of country ham, smoked bacon, and ham hocks.
