I give 10% tithes to my church, 2% to the bldg fund, and other offerings to special needs and misc. items.
I believe charities should be above and beyond your 10% to the church.

Some people don't have a home church so if you give to a Christian based charity, I think it would count. As for me, my husband makes a bulk of the money and is not a believer so I don't tithe off that money. I babysit three days a week and since that is money I make I tithe 10% to God. If I had more to give I would, but I can only give what I can. Even when money is short for us I make sure I give to God, because He's the reason I have what I have.

Who gives? or Who is suppose to give? And it's tithings not Tidings. Christians are suppose to give 10% and they are to do it willing or not at all. Other religions may follow this as well but I can only speak from my point of view. It is to go to the church that you attend and hopefully you attend one! Charity does not really count strictly speaking although there absolutely nothing wrong with it but it does not qualify as tithing I am afraid. It is for the local church to run and operate and do God's work using it.

Tithes were set up in the old Testiment so that the Levites could eat, and survive. Basically Tithes are meant to support the minister and his family. Biblically you shouldn't give tithes to charity because that is an offering.
Your preacher/rabbi/priest should be getting your 10%, and it is up to him how to spend it. Hopefully your preacher has a large congregation, so that he can get the extended cable package, or else he will be watching ROME at your house this year.

IT goes to the Chirch, but the figure of 10% is from the old testament law, laws that died out with the death & ressurection of Jesus. You are to give what you can, as much as you can. Read Luke 21:1-4, 1As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.[a] 3"I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
Giving is sacrificial.

I give it to my church, but we don't have paid clergy, so it's used for basic building an supply costs and charity too.
It's my personal experience and feeling that I can't afford not to give that 10%
Thanks

you give it back to the place or persons that spiritually feed you. Usually a church, but than again I've tithed to a waitress before. No joke intended.

I used 10% mainly because it is easier to do a budget that way. It can go to any cause that shows love in a practical way.
Feed the hungry.
Giving to the poor.
etc.

I keep setting my 10% out on the table but god does not take it. A lot of religious fanatics keep trying to break into my house and steal it, but god has yet to come for his 10%.
