I suppose when an angel makes themself seen then it must be quite obvious. The accounts of angels in the Bible refer to the person being afraid. The shepherd, wise men and Mary were. I doubt an angel is like the fluffy winged angels we depict them as.

Firstly, who said no one can't recognize an angel when he or she sees one? Secondly, why would you assume that Mary couldn't recognize an angel? Thirdly, if you did a little work - researched these things yourself - you will get much greater benefit then you can get by asking such questions here.

I think angels can be shown in human form and can walk among us. I also believe that they look very different in angel form (majestic comes to mind) and I think you would definitely be able to tell that it's an angel. I have never seen one, but I would love to.

angels have the ability to appear as celestial creatures or as men and women.

apparently Gabriel appeared as an angel. His message probably came accross as pretty divine, so that is another clue, i'm sure.

hmm good call. it says in the bible in multiple occassions that angels came and visited men. and a particular occasion where man wanted sex with the angels. so they must resemble men to some degree at least.

Clarify your timeline. Back in those days angels did apear in their heavenly form. In todays time they may appear in human form. I don't know that I've ever seen one but I definitely believe they are real.
