At the nursing home I used to work at we had a lady who carried a doll with her everywhere she went and when she didn't have it she would become aggitated. Then the state workers came for an inspection and said that the doll had to go because they felt it was not "dignified" The lady's family fought with the state and won. I was so glad because that doll was the only thing she had that she really cared about, she no longer remembered her children or anything else.

A doll for alzhiemers patients is a very good idea. I used to work for a nursing home who took care of many alzhiemers patients and one of them did carry around a doll wherever she went. She actually took care of it like it was her own child. She even tried feeding her food to it, it was very cute. But seriously, it keeps their mind focused on the item. And not forgeting everything.

I am visiting my mother in a care home which caters for dementia patients and i see 3/4 ladies who regularly hold dolls.
And Why not?
It is instinctive behaviour and they may have very little left in their lives:
if it gives them pleasure....why not?
and who knows they may have lost a child years ago.
Who knows what joys and sorrows they have lived through?

If they enjoy it, let them have it. I doubt it would confuse them more.
