sure would. Not like the Christians have been running the country the best and they have had 200 + years to try.

Definitely. I'm agnostic. I would vote for a Christian president, or what-not even though they have different views. Likewise, I would vote for an atheist. I don't really care what your religious affiliation amounts to, so long as they feel the same way as me regarding the issues that I care most about. Just one more thing. Atheist, by definition can't be part of an organized religion. Religion requires belief in a supernatural/superhuman being a.k.a. a God, thus atheists don't fit into that framework.

I don't believe in organized religion, so I don't have a problem with it. If they wanted to ban organized religion, I would be against that. There's a difference between not believing in it, and trying to take away people's rights to their religions.

Also, just so you know, there are atheist religions. Buddhism for example and also Universal Unitarians.

There's a good chance you already have. There are plenty of good politicians who are lapsed, agnostic, non-religious or non-believers. I've seen a decent list somewhere. I hope I can find it.

The truth is that there are almost a billion of us out there - according to 'official' records. The truth is probably significantly higher than that. I have voted for many Christians despite not being one myself, and I would expect any other person to consider the best person for the job - regardless of his or her beliefs.

All I can say is since Bush claims to be a Christian and enjoys killing his own citizens in the military and murdering thousands of women, children and men... I would go for anyone who was the exact opposite. Unfortuantely a Satanist would probably have a much better policy on needless death.

I'd vote for them, provided they were a good candidate. I'd really prefer to see someone in office who abides by the whole separation of church and state thing for a change, and I doubt we'll ever get that as long as we continue to put holy rollers into office.

I would vote for an atheist based on that fact alone. At least one person in government should see that the emperor has no clothes.

I would be more inclined to vote for them if they did not believe in organized religion.

Let me get this straight, you are asking me if I would vote for someone who doesn't believe in organized religion, even if they actually did?
