If I had a kid and found him reading The God Delusion, I would hug him, tell him that I'm very proud, take him to dinner and discuss the book.

Your kid? How old is this "kid" supposed to be? I don't believe that there are many people under the age of 18 who could read that book and understand it. So I'd be amazed and full of wonder at that. And I'd say "good for you!"

If I had one, be worried if they rejected its message out of hand, or swallowed it whole uncritically. So definitely discuss it with them when the'd finished.

It's a very useful read, but it's spoiled by some unnecessarily angry and bitter passages.
It would be a better book without those.

I'm a Christian. I wouldn't mind getting around to it myself. There are so many things I'm interested in knowing more about - I can't get around to them all. There's nothing wrong with education, unless it comes without wisdom.

I would commend him on his good taste in reading material and then I would ask him if I could borrow it.
