Do people still use cake toppers for their wedding cakes? I was thinking about doing something like this http://www.dessertworks.net/pics/weddingnn.jpg for my fall wedding. I wouldn't be opposed to doing a topper, but haven't found any I like and think it would be too much (gaudy) for what I want to do. What do you think?

My wedding is September 15th. Oh, and I am leaving out the pumpkins on the cake.

Yes, people still use cake toppers. Hobby Lobby has some really cute ones. I love the cake, by the way. I would just go with a small cake topper on a cake like this, something delicate that won't make it too top heavy. A cute idea instead of a traditional cake topper would be to find a small, pretty silver frame and put a picture of you and your husband in it. That would personalize the cake in a unique way.

I was excited to read your question, you and I are getting married on the same day!! :) As far as the cake goes, it's beautiful. I wasn't all that keen on toppers either, as far as the lil people and the monograms etc, seems a lil much for me. I did however order a flower topper for the top of our cake. My cake will be decorated with the flowers I'm using in the wedding. I've always wanted to have a fall themed wedding, but for me, I didn't feel that September personified fall enough for me. I would love to do the fall leaves on the tables though. Gosh I could talk forever, email me! lol

I seen an engraved topper that has a gold leaf on it that I think would make a great topper for the cake in your pic. Plus after the wedding you can use it as a momento from you big day. Ifound it at www.customweddingsolutions.com on their Fall Theme page. I think it only cost like $25. I seen it a bridal show and it was very nice. They also have silk fall leaves in the colors in the picture. Check 'em out: www.customweddingsolutions.com

Congrats! I'm have a fall wedding also! I love the cake! I don't think you necessarily need a topper, its beautiful as it is. If you feel maybe it need something... you might want to consider putting more leaf decorations on the top of it, kind of to top it off. But I personally think that a real cake topper might make it look over done.

That cake is gorgeous!!! I say go for it!! It's your wedding and if you don't want a cake topper don't have one!! And if you get a cake like that, people will be so amazed at how unique and cool it is they probably wouldn't even notice you didn't use a cake topper! I didn't use one at my wedding and at the last four weddings I have been too, they didn't either! A lot of people are just using flowers!!

Congrats!!

That is a lovely cake! There is no reason to use a cake topper if you don't care to, and, as I'm sure you've noticed, there are thousands of beautiful cake designs out there that don't involve traditional cake toppers.

Personally, I always thought that the cake topper was just one more knick-knack left over after the wedding that I would have to store some place. (Our cake had fondant Calla Lillie's and strings of pearls as decoration - no topper in sight! - and nothing for me to store after the fact!)

I love it! For my wedding, five years ago, I had a cake topper. It was so hard to find one that I actually liked, finally when I did, it was too heavy to put on the cake, lol! So, don't even bother, the cake is so beautiful that adding a cake topper would be overbearing.

I have a topper, its a monogram M for our last name thats covered in rhinestones-not just a few in strategic places, litlerally all of it is covered in rhinestones and its the prettiest thing Ive ever seen as far as cake toppers themselves go!

I absolutly LOVE the cake you have picked out, and I don't know that you would need a topper considering all the leaves, that will be so pretty for a fall wedding, I say go find a good baker and stick with that! *suggestion* what color are your bridesmaid dresses? I think it would be really pretty to leave the cake white, but change those swirly things in the icing to the color of your dresses, or do them in chocolate icing to make it even more fall-y! either way, good choice!

That cake is beautiful and doesn't need a topper. However, unless you are having a halloween wedding, I would do without the pumpkins and just use the leaves. Looks more sophisticated. Just a suggestion. Good luck and congratulations.
