I assume you're asking whether you can file a claim for benefits from a disability policy due to mental illness?
The answer depends on the terms of the contract. I've seen hundreds of disability income policies; some cover disabilties due to mental illness, others don't, and still others limit the maximum benefit period if the disability is caused solely by mental illness.

You can receive SSI for mental disability. If you go to the Social Security website they have a 33 page manual that explains who and how to qualify for benefits.
