I have heard some people claim that cloning is proof of evolution. In my opinion, cloning would not prove evolution. How does copying already existing life help prove that we came from nothing?
I know that this question could go under the science category, but everyone here usually has less scientific answers, which is what I'm going for. I just want opinions to see what everyone else believes.

I am also tempted to say that cloning does not give credibility to evolution. Louis Pasteur said "Life can only come from life". If anything, I would believe that cloning supports this.

I am not attempting to "make a dig" at evolution. I am just trying to find out if the person who told me that cloning supports evolution is crazy... which by the majority of the answers, it seems he is.

No. Cloning has nothing to do with evolution. In fact, the idea of
cloning is like playing God and in my opinion that is a sin.

They ability to clone is evidence that these scientists know what they are talking about. DNA is at the heart of evolution. The fact that they can work with DNA as they do supports their theories about how DNA works, and therefore supports the foundation of their theories on evolution. It is not conclusve proof in and of itself, but it gives credibility, and, taken with the full body of genetics research, is overwhelming proof.
It's as if you found a wallet, and a man came to claim it. If he says "on the left side, under the third flap, there is a sugar packet from the Interstate Diner," well, that's not conclusive proof that it is his wallet, but it gives him pretty darn good credibility.
What clonitgn proves is teh function of certain complex molecules. Scientisst have always been able to make molecules in the lab once they understand their mechanism, and they will eventually be able to create DNA from non-living compounds, and living things from that DNA. Once they do, what will you all say? One thing history has taught us is that arguments between religion and science are almost always won, eventually, by science.

Is that an unbelievably convoluted and contrived dig at evolution or a genuine question about cloning? Cloning has nothing to do with biological evolution.

NOTHING will EVER prove that we originated from NOTHING... that, my dear, is a contradiction and therefore impossible. What does cloning prove? That our bodies are self replacating entities. Babies are not placed there inside the womb by any supernatural force but grow out of the woman's flesh. When you are born, you are basically like your mother's arm, or thigh, in that your physical body was created out of things that she ate and drank, and every disruption, even a bump in the road, influenced how your brain developed and paths your veins and arteries took to develop and reach their goals. Now proof of evolution is all around us. If we weren't physically related to the animals we wouldn't look and act so much like them. Our body parts would be completely different, or we wouldn't even have bodies... but we do, and we have brains which function identically to the brains in wild beasts. We are more complex in that area, but the basic ideas are the same, the way that information is transmitted is identical. The quickest evolution happens with bacteria and viruses. If they didn't adapt so thoroughly and so quickly we wouldn't need new flu shots every year and new antibiotics. The larger the beast and the more time it takes to create a new generation, the longer it takes to see evidence of evolution, but it's there.
Finally, only religious people believe everything was built out of nothing. And there is NOT one shred of proof for this, for like I said, it is a contradiction in terms. So until god decides to show up and explain how this miracle happened, there is no reason to believe it did. Just like there is no reason to believe the world is flat, even though the church said it was... no reason to believe having slaves is OK, even though the bible has no problem with it... no reason to believe that god created everything out of nothing just because your pastor says that's what happened.
EDIT:
one more thing, for those of you who think that cloning is playing god, remember that saving a dying child is also playing god. Cloning is not "CREATING" people from dust, but is basically making someone have an identical twin, something we've been sort of doing with some of our fertility drugs which cause women to give birth to 6 at a time.

Evolution is nature doing something all by itself, cloning is people actually making something happen. It is not proof of evolution at all, it has nothing to do with it.

CLONING IS NOT A SIN, its called IN NATURE an IDENTICAL TWIN. Nature uses cloning ALL THE TIME. Its just that we as humans muddie the waters as what "true" cloning IS.
True cloning is making an exact replica of the same genetic material, this is the definition of an identical twin. They are from the SAME EGG (i.e., the same genetic material) and are technically, for all intents and purposes, CLONES. Many animals reproduce this way, by cell like division, splitting off and allowing other parts to grow new limbs, etc.
People at large just tend to freak out when talking about it WITHOUT THINKING or realizing that cloning is not making the SAME PERSON! It is making a genetically SIMILIAR person, not an identical person.

I don't think cloning is proof of evolution it is proof that genes can be cloned.
