Are you sure about this? I always heard that women have more car accidents than men but less damages and fatalities. If you really want to compare the two, you have to take into account which gender drives more than the other one. Or you have to talk about percentages, like that many percent of men who drive have accidents and that many percent of women who drive have accidents.
As far as the insurance companies are concerned, young male drivers are notoriously more dangerous than young female drivers. Men sometimes drives fast just to impress their girlfriend while a woman is much less likely to behave that way. Men driving faster means more expensive repairs for their cars (if it’s not totaled). Also women very often drives their kids somewhere and when you have your kid in your car and you are a good mother, you will be very careful about their safety and therefore you will drive carefully and avoid many accidents.

Before we pass judgement on this, we should know the relative values of the following between men and women:
1. Mileage
2. Time behind the wheel.
Not knowing these figure would make any observations futile and rather subjective. i.e. Rants about aggressive men v. women in 4x4's etc.

Men feel the need for speed. But you would think that women applying makeup, would lead to more accidents. (Just joking.) In reality, I think it is because there are more men driving.

Men don't have more accidents than us girlies (we have double the amount) but the cost of their claims are double the price of ours.
We will claim for things like reversed into a lamp-post but the guys will write off a couple of cars in the process.
That's why their insurance is so much higher than ours.

Generally, men LOVE driving, and love driving a car fast and competing with other drivers.
Women view a car more as a mode of transportation, and the sooner the trip is over, the better.
And yes, I know there are exceptions.

The conventional answer would be "men are more inclined to take risks."
But women are less likely to be in the kinds of accidents that cannot go unreported. So the stats may be skewed in terms of total collisions. (But not in terms of deaths)

Because, on average men drive more miles per year than women.
The more miles you drive, the more risk you run of having an accident.
(Women actually have more accidents than men, per 1,000 miles driven, though. It just takes them longer to clock up the mileage.)

there a few factors 1 there are still more men than women driving . attitude male machismo and a fondness for motor-sport!
I believe seriously that there are 3 types of male drivers excellent , average and poor with most of the poor ones believing that they are excellent. With the female of the species their are only 2 types excellent or poor. the difference also being that more females are excellent than crap. hence the extra female driver discounts

Lots of factors. One is that more men drive. They drive farther. More men are professional drivers which means a lot more time on the road. (ex. Taxi or truck driver) Testosterone, it makes us competitive and this can lead to road rage which can lead to accidents.

Because women drive slower than men, and they drive more around schools where the speed limit is slower to pick up the kids while their husbands are out on the street earning the household money to pay for their prada shoes.
