Most of us know the theory of evolution, however not many of us know the evidences behind the evolution theory. There was one evidence by someone but it was faked. So I'm asking you, with explaining with logic etc, where is the evidence on this theory? If I dont get any answers I'll just assume that this theory is just a theory and is not reality

Your last sentence suggests you do not understand the idea of a 'theory'. You also appear to be asking Y!A respondents to satisfactorily summarise nearly 150 years of research otherwise you're going to reject the whole thing!

But hey, if you bring an open mind, I'm up for a challenge!

A theory is 'a logically self-consistent model for describing the behaviour of a related set of natural or social phenomena'. In other words, it is a suggested explanation for observed facts. The important thing is that theories can be used to predict future observations and so are capable of being tested through experiment. For a theory that's 150 years old, evolution hasn't done too badly.

Where is the evidence? Well, how about this recent link for a start? It describes a new (discovered in 2004) species of human, "Homo floresiensis" , which died out about 12,000 years ago. In other words, it is related to modern humans but is different from us and also different from known humanoids found nearby.

This means it shows the "speciation" Eric M said you should look for.

I also attach links to two papers, one describing H floresiensis' physiology, another its genetics if you want ot read some more.

Well, you did ask! Enjoy your studies!

http://www.answers.com/evolution gives a quick summary.

I've no idea what you are referring to by 'faked' evidence. Evolutionary theory has the support of the scientific community, which comes to my main point.

Evolution is a theory as you say. What you clearly do not understand is the meaning and context of this word. There are two types of theory - 1) 'someone killed the cat and my theory is that it was Fred because he hated the noises it made' and 2) Scientific theories such as Einstein's General Theory of Relativity.

The difference is the context. A scientific theory such as evolution is rigorously tested and debated by the scientific community. If it does not hold true, it is rejected. It is worth noting that evolutionary theory has no challengers - if it was rejected on scientific grounds, Intelligent Design would not replace it. This is because Intelligent Design is not a scientific theory. It has not been debated - no papers have ever been published in scientific journals open to peer review. It has no basis in science and is purely a public relations exercise to discredit evolution because some people fears it threatens their religious views.

It is always worth keeping an open mind and remembering that evolution is 'just a theory' but remember this doesn't mean it isn't reality. Do you question the atom? Or gravity? These are theories as well.

Try reading up both sides of the Creation/ Evolution debate with an OPEN mind & then decide for yourself. You could start with the OT, then compare and contrast that "theory" with Darwin's On the Origin of Species and see which you find the more plausible. Remember, an OPEN mind, no prejudice either way.

Hello i'm new to this so here goes, the theory of evolution is quite simple, it was thought by the great Charles Darwin that evolution occurred because of mutations that improved and help the animals life. For instance a bird that would have been born with a longer beak could go further down the trunk of a tree and eat, while the other smaller beaked birds could not feed, thus they would die out.

In order for it to be a scientific theory, it must be based on clear scientific evidence. It could not be a scientific theory without evidence.

The biggest evidence supporting the Theory of (Macro)Evolution is the simple fact of (micro)evolution that we observe in life. Living organisms do, in fact, evolve and we can observe this every day. One of the best examples would be bacteria becoming resistant to antiseptics or our own engineering of plants to have the highest yield and resistance to insects and weed-killers. The theory of evolution basically just extends this over billions of years and it's nearly impossible to feel that it wouldn't have led to some serious genetic changes over the 4-5 billion years the earth has been around.

The theory of evolution as explained in Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species" is reality or as close as we've come yet. It is accepted scientific fact, meaning it has passed every scientific attempt to disprove it. In fact it is a result of the laws of genetics discovered independently by Gregor Mendel.

Don't believe people who say it is disproved by the Bible; the creation story in Genesis is just a story and there needn't therefore be any conflict.

But don't take my word for it read up on it yourself!

Why do religious people think they're going to find their evidence on some forum in 1500 words or less? Especially when you wouldn't believe it anyway without a long drawn out explanation and an understanding of how chemistry, biology, geology, and physics work?

Because I can't teach you everything you should have learned in high school in this little itty space. Nor do I want to waste my time because it will take two years for you to learn what you should already know.

You want your evidence? Go study genetics.Go study geology.

But, for gods sakes, go bloody STUDY for a change instead of asking idiotic questions because you're too lazy to go do what you actually need to.

And I'm fully aware that you're probably going to report me even though I haven't insulted you.

You got your answer, you're just not going to like the answer because it means that its wholey on YOU to do the work you need to do.

Biological evolution is a fact, only the mechanisms are theoretical. The evidence is in the fossil record-it literally contains thousands of examples showing species transitions, then there are the physiological similarities between species which can only be the result of a shared ancestry. But the real clincher is that evolution is observed in laboratories-speciation of insects such as fruit flies has been seen occuring regularly. Evolution of species is an indisputable fact.

If you REALLY want evidence, why would you ask this here, and not in the science section? Most of the people in R&S don't specialize in Biology or Evolution. You're basically asking lay people to teach you at the University level. This leads me to think your mind is made up and you don't WANT to hear anything that would prove a scientific theory you happen to dislike. If you don't answer this, I'll just assume I'm right and you're just trying to stir up bad feeling.

Do you believe in Adam and Eve? Common sense will tell you the human race would not have survived at all with intermarital relations. We evolved, whatever you believe in, we did. So does it matter whether we evolved from pond scum or apes we are here and we have to start thinking beyond and not before because whatever happened before does not have any relevance on what we are or what we will become.
