I'd say that means he wants to take it slow, cuz when you're deep in a relationship, you got to be emotional

He is trying to tell you that he is not the kind to show that he loves you or any other emotion. He might feel uncomfortable with it. maybe he was never shown love as a child. There are many possabilties to what caused this to happen. But he is just getting you prepared that away you don't expect something from him he can't give.

MEN DON'T ALWAYS FELL THINGS AS STONGLY OR AS OFTEN AS YOU MIGHT, DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF ESTROGEN (IT REDUCES THE ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE BETWEEN NEURONS AND THAT CAUSES MORE SWINGS & MORE POWER TO THEM) JUST TAKE THE WHOLE THING EASY, IT WILL WORK-OUT IN THE END.
