You lost. That means you didn't plan well enough. Try again. God gave us the ability to prepare for things with our little bitty brains. Use them.

Perfect example is when Paul was being tormented by a "messenger of satan." Paul consistently cried out to God to take away this "thorn in his flesh," but God said, "NO, deal with it!" Because of this battle, Paul grew some much more in Jesus Christ. God did this for Paul's benefit; God wanted Paul to rely on Him more than anything, to trust Him.

Paul passed this test. Some say that the "messenger of satan" was an actually demon or evil spirit, while others say it was a very sereve skin disease.

When someone fails, it can mean a couple of things. Such as it might not be in God's Will for you to succeed in something, He wants you to look to Him, trust in Him, and rely on Him. Which He could also want you to humble yourself before Him.

Its not just humility, it can be a numerous things.

Yes. I have been humbled many times. God does teach this way. Not everyone believes this, I do.

God certainly works in mysterious ways, and we simply do not understand, so I would say yes because it is lesson he wants you to learn.
