It's essential. If you do not do these things, you will never get as good as you can be.

Many people think that when it comes to singing, you either can or you can't. When that is not necessarily true. It IS true that some people have a natural talent for carrying a tune, and at note matching. BUT you can most definitely improve your singing voice if you use the correct techniques, and warm ups. To improve holding out your notes focus mainly on building up your diaphragm muscles (make sure those tummy muscles are tight!) To improve your range do warm-ups that feel like a bit of a strain on those top notes(having a strong diaphragm will help with that also!) *Try Seth Riggs books and cd's :)

Definitely. I took 15 years of lessons and learned new things from every one of my teachers.

I'm now singing professionally and have been recording for over 20 years. I wouldn't be, without all that training.

Exercises develop skills. And if you want to have the ability to sing anything, you need to start out training classically. Once you know the rules, you can break them when you want to.

I don't really agree with the voice teacher down in the other post who said you can't learn pitch by singing rock and country.

If that were true where would Elvis be? Kind of humorous!

I often go up to the G above the staff now, and I have gone to the e flat above high c a few times. I have been taking voice for six years.

Usually, but my voice teahcer told me that if you grow up singing to rock or country you don't develope the mouth to ear connection that everyone else does. I know that's true, because I have a friend in that predicament. Ca't tell one note from the other. Course, she never tries, but...

Yes, the lessons are good for helping you know how to use your voice, and the exercises are good to help you increase your range and control.
