Well, a number of things can cause this symptom, from carpal tunnel to nerve compression to MS to diabetes to a blood clot to Huntington's Disease. Low blood pressure can be the culprit; even some medications can have this as a side effect. Regardless of the cause, it's not something you should just forget about; it's a serious symptom and you deserve every attempt at finding an answer.

That said, you should get a different doctor. Whether you just get a new one altogether who will look into this better for you, or whether you ask the current one for a referral to a hand specialist and a neurologist, you need to keep looking.

Things to make sure the doctor knows: whether the onset of your symptoms was sudden or gradual; whether both hands are affected the same amount; whether anything you do makes it better or worse; whether you are experiencing pain or tingling; what meds and drugs (legal or otherwise) and vitamin or herbal supplements you are taking.

Good luck!

Hi, numb hands could be a sign of multiple sclerosis. you would need to see a neurologist who will be able to assess your central nervous system. sorry, don't mean to worry you, but its better to know. a MIR scan should show up any lesions in the brain. ms attacks the nerves and causes scar tissue, numbness often results because the messages have to "jump" the scar tissue. maybe there is another simpler explanation, I hope so for your sake. good luck.

Get a neurologist , are they numb 24/7 or off and on? Is it worse any other time then others? There are countless neuromuscular illness that can cause this an 99% are not fatal. I have one myself called HKPP , periodic paralysis, freaky illness, but mine is much more sevre than numb hands, if numbness is involed that long go neurology.

might be a pinched nerve in your neck...I had numbness/tingling in my hands due to vertabrae slightly out of place...I'd recommend to get an Xray and possibly MRI done on your neck.

See a different doctor; try to be forthcoming of other symptoms that might be connected.
