The reason that everyone hates them is because brussel sprouts that are not fresh taste like feet. They are the most disgusting vile thing on the planet.
Now if you go to a farmers market and get some fresh off of the stalk. Take those home and saute them in some butter and garlic. You have the most savory succulent melt in your mouth vegetable you have ever tasted. About now is the right season to get them. Never eat them in the spring or summer...yuck.

They taste like a very strong cabbage but slightly bitter. I have tried to eat them but even baking the sliced heads doesn't work for me. They also are too 'fragrant' for my taste so I cook them outside on a burner to keep the house from smelling like cabbage. It's all a personal taste thing.

Like the first repondant said more of a cabbage flavour, as a chef in Canada I always tried to dress them up.
Most people dislike them as they were either overcooked as a child, and then were made eat them or got no dessert, at least that was the corporal rules in my home.
I have always like vegetables, I was the oldest so had no one to warp my intellect, now I can got veggie any time, just not much. gas issues.

Not everyone hates them it is what they are told!! If you are told not to touch hot steaming water you don't touch it. They are just an acquired taste is all. If you make them right they will taste really good and I will guarantee you will like them. If you like Broccoli you have the acquired taste. Melt Velveeta Cheese over them and yummy !!

I think they taste like a mix between kale and cauliflower, but it's really subjective.
I don't hate them, but my younger brother does. I could just the same ask you why so many people love burgers. What makes one food tastier than another? Personal preference.
Take a stab at them. They're not half bad.

Brussel spouts are baby cabbage. I love them,so does my six year old. If you drop a couple of chicken bouillon cubes in the boiling water,it will add a nice flavor to them

To me they taste like a very compact bunch of cabbage that doesn't have as good a flavor as cooked cabbage. I found it to be kind of blah and uninteresting.
