My best wepon is the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. It is sharper that a two edged sword dividing the soul and spirit. The better I know it, the better I am able to use it. My shield of faith knowing whom I have believed in.

If you've played every class, I'm surprised you don't already know this. While knowing which type of skill tree you want to focus in helps, at such a low level, you can spare the few gold cost to change later if your first choice isn't what you like. If you go 2-hand, a hammer is slower but supposed to give you more crits, while an axe has a higher min-max range and higher crits. I think that's how the formula worked, but I'm sure if it isn't, someone will correct me. You really only will need or want a shield if you decide to go the guardian path with the shield skills. A good shield weapon is of course a sword. Fast and average damage, it compliments a shield well.

When I'm playing Oblivion, I prefer Goldbrand and a Daedric shield.

I prefer swords. My best is probably my Claymore. I don't have any shields at the moment, but I'm working on it.
