I personally hate the idea of "dieting." In the long run, they rarely work b/c you tend to see them as temporary measures. I think it's best to change your entire concept about eating.

Eating healthy is not just important for acheiving and maintaining a healthy weight, but it sets a good example for your children as well. None of us who have struggled w/ weight issues and food additictions over the years want our children to suffer the same. If we can show them how to eat healthy all the time, rather than just diet to "fix" a weight "problem" we can set them on the path of lifelong health.

I think you can loose weight safely while breastfeeding: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/mom/mom-weightloss.html

You mostly need to take care of yourself. Eat lots of vegetables, especially fresh veggies (salads are a good way to do this), choose whole grains over refined grains, and avoid refined sugar (and most sweetners while you're trying to lose weight) like the plauge. Drink pleanty of fluids b/c you cannot properly burn fat or even maintain a healthy body system w/o enough fluids (I think the calculations is around 1 quart per 50lbs of body weight).

I would suggest waiting until the baby is 6 months old or maybe older because at least at 6 months the baby will be on jar food and baby cereal which will start providing more of their nutrients. Starting a diet before that time while breastfeeding could allow for some nutritional gaps for your baby or mainly you since whatever you dont eat gets taken from your body to provide for your baby it could cause health issues for you in the future sorest take your vitamins and eat right and you may begin some excercise after your doctors release, hope i helped

it depends on what kind of diet you are wanting to go on. just breastfeeding alone will help you lose baby weight, with my second daughter, i got back to my pre pregnancy weight in less than a month. i don't remember the exact numbers, but women who are breastfeeding are usually encouraged to take in even more calories than they did while they were pregnant. you should talk with your doctor or a nutritionist to make sure, but the best thing you can do is to begin an exersize program and eat healthy foods, since everything you eat is everything your baby eats. good luck!

The beauty of breastfeeding is that you really won't need any restricted diet - the energy your body needs to produce milk will melt the pounds off - you'll be amazed! You really need to eat a very healthy diet with sufficient calories - nothing too low or you'll deprive the baby of what it needs to survive! Enjoy this wonderful time and don't worry about "baby weight" on you - it will disappear!

you actually need about 500 calories a day more when you are nursing as when you are pregnant, so dieting isnt really recommended. if you just eat when you are hungry, and eat healthy foods, you pregnancy weight will start to come off. you can also try to pump extra milk,so you burn more calories producing more. be sure to take a multivitamin. talk to your doc about the best one while you are nursing. try to get plenty of exercise, too. take your new baby for lots of walks! exercise will do wonders for your body, as well as your mind.

follow a recommended diet in a pregnancy book. don't go below 1500 calories a day. eat healthy foods and you won't have to worry. make sure what you do eat is not-overprocessed and gives you enough nutrition to make up for the calories lost.
