You have a kidney infection. It may or may not be related to your alcohol consumption - I've had several kidney infections and rarely ever drink. Kidney infections have never given me the urethra infection symptoms (burning during urination) Go to the doctor and they'll prescribe you antibiotics to clear up the infection. It most likely will not clear up on it's own and the infection will damage your kidneys if allowed to go too long. You may need a renal efficiency test (I think that's what it's called) and your urine protein levels checked as it's been 3 weeks already. I never let an infection go that long and my kidneys were in pretty rough shape by the time I got to the doctor with my last infection.
Easy check for kidney problems - Have someone put their hand flat on your back over the offending kidney and give the flat hand a solid tap with the other hand. If there's a problem, you'll know. My doctor did that during my last infection because he was suspect at me getting another infection so soon and I nearly doubled over.

If you are not a doctor, how do you KNOW that it is your 'kidney' that is enlarged? I am older and have 'rheumatoid arthritis' and have a lot of pain in my lower back around my kidneys, but I know only because I see my doctor REGULARLY that this is from getting 'arthritis' at the site of an old 'back injury' and not because my 'kidney' is going bad. GO SEE A DOCTOR if your pain is 'serious' and has gone on for over a week ... and I 'don't think' it's your 'kidney' acting up because you 'drank' but could be 'coincidental' with that ... but WHY WERE YOU DRINKING SO HEAVILY at the age of 18 over the 'Christmas period' and HOW DO YOU KNOW that you are not 'addicted to alcohol?' You may simply be a 'binge alcoholic' and not a 'need a drink every day' alcoholic ... so you really do need to SEE A DOCTOR about BOTH PROBLEMS, and THE SOONER THE BETTER for you.

Start drinking lots and lots of water. I suffered from lower back pains for about 2 weeks before I ended up with severe pains in my side. It ended up being kidney stones. I had no other symptoms other than the lower back pain and I thought it was just a typical sore back.
My doctor recommended that I drink tons of water to keep my kidneys and bladder flushed. If you start to notice blood in your urine, you most likely have an infection.
The water should make the pain go away but visit your doctor if the pain doesn't go away. Kidney stones are terribly painful and the larger ones must be blasted. The smaller ones most likely will have to pass on their own. Good Luck!

First of all, your appendix is on the RIGHT side. If it was me, I'd take my temp to see if it was up. That would tell me if I had any kind of infection. If you have a slight temp, then watch it for the next 8-10 hours, and if it stays there or goes up at all, then call your doc on Tuesday for an appointment. Meanwhile, try some GasX and see if that helps. About 20 minutes after you take it, try getting into this yoga pose called the "Wind Letting Pose". I am NOT kidding!!! LOL It's a lying posture, on your back, and pull your knees up towards your chest till you can wrap your arms around them. If there's anything in there, this should help. In yoga class, when we do this pose, somebody always lets one rip. How long have you had the pain? Have you had a bowel movement lately? You could be constipated, or you could have a twisted bowel, which is way serious. If it gets unbearable, then you'll have to go to urgent care or emergency room, but if it's gas, you can work this out on your own and save the hospital call. Good luck, bud.

You may have damaged your kidneys with the heavy drinking. I would tell your parents if you live at home, otherwise see a doctor. You really shouldn't mess around with it, you say that you aren't a regular drinker, so that binge may have caused damage. Good luck.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
