In the Catholic religion, if an atheist decides to believe at the last minute, then this is not off-limits or anything. It would involve confession, absolution, and last rites. Same goes for the Christian version, they can do the "do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior" thing the (former) atheist and would be considered "saved". Both religions hold that the decision must be sincere, that you can't "lie your way into heaven".

It seems though that you are assuming that there is in fact a God/Jesus/Jebus/Pan the Goat/Flying Spaghetti Monster. We have no factual evidence that none of these exist.
If someone is Atheist then he/she has no regard for a god, goddess, deity, or anything of the sort. There is no savior for them, or anyone for that matter.
No one will be saved by any imaginary friend.

Only if there were something real to save them .
They Don`t believe in imaginary beings ,so why does this question about saving always come up for Atheists ?
What really happened to you when you were " Saved"?
Was it a feeling or did you SEE THIS GOD OF
YOURS?

When W.C. Fields (an athiest) was on his deathbed, he was reading the Bible. A friend asked him if he had changed his mind, he replied "Just checking for loopholes." LOL!
Hell, at that point, I might check for loopholes too.

If someone accepts Christ, TRULY accepts, on their deathbed, they are saved. Christ knows your heart and if it is true. However, at the final Judgment, they will have to answer for their lives

If someone is an atheist they wouldn't want to be "Saved"
The only saving I want on my "deathbed" is from an EMT/paramedic, nurse or doctor.

Well ain't that too easy... we atheists commit the worst of sins denying god... and you're telling me if at the last moment we convert, we go to heaven? What a great offer... I will consider it when I'm in my lasts minutes of life... NOT.
Who wants to go to heaven anyway?

If an atheist is just about to die, and "just to be sure" they supposedly accept Jesus they most likely won't go to heaven. In my opinion and what it says in the Bible.
